Any luck Jigging with rooster tails/other spoons
« on: Jan 03, 2014, 09:57 AM »
Hey guys,

I had this idea come to me last night. Has anyone ever tried jigging with spoons such as rooster tails/gitzits/mepps? I was thinking of trying it but I wanted to see if anyone else has ever had any luck with them!

Thanks again, and best of luck to any/all braving the cold weather today! I'm hoping on getting out this weekend at some point!

Ben

Gitzits and grubs yes, bucktails and Mepps style spinners..no. They do not fall correctly and makes a big tangled mess in my experience. In'line spinners need to be adjusted for a vertical presentation from their original horizontal presentation ;)

Not to be a jerk... Rooster Tails and Mepps are spinners (In-line Spinners, to be precise.), unless some one has come out with something I have not seen yet... I have tried jigging with them over the years and have caught fish, but have always done better with "Jigs". Now there are some pike guys doing some stuff with spinners that I will be watching...

A little unorthodox but these work well for jigging too. Josh landed his laker on these in 3/4 ounce tipped with a smelt. http://www.pklures.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=36&zenid=0bqmkjcbnkmpqsf6see2dcmjq5

the only inline spinner that i have liuck with  jigging is the panther martin  with no bucktail   i have caught trout on it before  thru ice  the trick is to lift it  and drop it quick with slack and if you do it right it will helicopter down  it worked  awesome last time i used it years  ago it was  black body with yellow spots and gold blade
May your flags never have the bends
