If you want to catch large numbers of for sure fish you can hit loon lake in wayland for perch, vital park on conesus for gills, the state launch or macks on silver for gills/crappie. Braddocks bay is great for fat perch/pike too.
Loon is great for pickerel (I take the kids there a few times a year to chase flags), but you probably won't get that many perch there. If you get a dozen keepers, you have had a good day (and you won't find too many slobs). There are many better places for perch, like Sodus or Irondequoit Bays.Braddock's CAN be great for perch and pike, if you hit it on the right day, or you could get nearly shut out like a lot of us did this past weekend.Guess that's why they call it fishing and not catching!
Honeoye you can access at the south end boat launch, north end from the park ,and on the east side I believe trident marina allows access still. Good for perch bluegill and walleye. Ice has varied so make sure you have a spud to check the ice. Headed there tomorrow myself.
what are you talking about??? No perch??? Are we talking bout the same loon lake? The one time I fished it last year I brought home 43 10-12in perch. You must be doing something wrong out there
Loon Lake in Dansville? I have never heard of anyone catching 43 perch that big in one trip out there in recent years. You must have really gotten into a good school that day! If you can do it again, let me know, cause I'd love to come fish with you and learn you secret!I only started fishing there a few years ago, and hooked up with various guys who have been fishing there for many, many years. I never heard of anyone doing that well in recent years (I have heard some stories from some seasoned vets about better days many years ago). I am not doubting you, I am just saying that from my experience, that is probably rare/the exception. I think if someone goes there expecting that many perch each time, they will most likely be sadly disappointed. But hey, on any given day you can get in to them. My Dad and I once caught 200 perch at Braddocks! That is what makes fishing so great. You just never know what will happen!Tight lines! I have fished that lake for bout 10yrs and have always had good luck out there. Yes, you have to get through the dinks and pickrel. What we have done in recent years is go out way past the second point into about 17ft of water or so. genz worm with a waxie. plus tip-ups with a fat head. what I do is pull the jig up quick, the dinks will follow it, looks like a christmas tree on the sonar. then quickly drop it back down to the bottom. Most days you get 1 keeper per every 10dinks.

Loon is full of slob perch and crappies just have to know how to fish um. Definitely not unheard of to get limits.
Icerogue. Thanks for the tips. When you say "past the second point", do you mean going from West to East at the North End of the lake? I haven't quite made it out that far yet. I usually go early ice, and the ice was a little iffy out that far. I personally don't have any sonar, but my Dad does (when I can convince him to drive that far, as he is coming from near Niagara Falls).Regarding Mendon Ponds, some days you can get into a bunch of small to medium sized pike, but don't go there expecting to jig up many panfish, just a few here and there, if you are lucky. I have also had many days where you get very little. There are some big bass in there though. I got a 5 lb bucketmouth thorough the ice some years ago.I only live 10 minutes from Mendon, but I will usually drive the hour it takes to get to Loon instead if I want to get into some flag action. The pickerel in Loon aren't much smaller than the pike in Mendon, and seem to be a lot more plentiful and active. Typically,I only hit Mendon if there is no other safe ice around, or I want to get the kids out for just a few hours some place close to home (and then they can go sledding - it is a beautiful park!).
hey, I sent you a PM, unfortunately I have not been out there this season yet. By the second point what I mean is not the one first island off of the bar, but the second little one going across length wize. Reality is anywhere in aprox 17 ft of water you will find the slobs on the bottom and the dinks above them. You just have ti get through the dinks.
