Crappies at Night?
« on: Jan 01, 2014, 07:14 AM »
So curious if anyone goes out at night for crappies? I accidentally dropped my flashlight down the hole yesterday right before dark, so I decided to fish over it, since I was in 5 fow and could see my flashlight, and started catching crappie just after dark. So Im curious on input, if guys do fishing crappie at night, whats your technique... What kind of bait/lures do you typically use, depth and what kind of light? Any info would be great thanks guys hope we start finding the fish soon! Good luck out there!

Im not here to find out people's fishing spots, I just want general information on bait, depth they've been catching and technique. I dont want to intrude on were people are fishing without being invited to fish with them or in the area they have been catching fish, just find that as a common courtesy.

I know that for other species that get active at night lights usually attract their food source. Not sure on depth/technique for night fishing crappies because that can change day-do-day, but there is definitely an increased activity level when the light level drops. Most people I know that night fish for crappies tend to do a lot less moving around and more or less stick to one spot if they're lighting their hole.

The body of water you're fishing can play a big part in answering all your questions. Maybe not the name but are you fishing a deep lake or pond with a deep basin or large bay with weeds?? Sounds like what you did with your flash light worked pretty good so you can always replicate that technique on bodies of water in a similar location in regards to depth and such.

x2 thats whats I was shooting for...
