So i got to the south side of the dam around 11:15 am on Christmas, and it was gorgeous, no breeze and 24 degrees. Start walking out to my spot, but GPS was too cold to work. I stopped at the first shelter to ask directions, and Scott was nice enough to point me in the right direction. While we were talking, Ray came over from a couple hundred yards away to chat.
Turns out, my spot was almost half a mile away. But my spot was RED HOT! After an hour or so, I broke off my secret jig, available only by mail order from Berkley. I reached for my tackle tray, and darnit, it fell off the sled while fiddling with the GPS.
I walked all the way back to Scott, retracing my steps, looking for the 4" tall tackle tray in the gloriously blinding sunshine, getting a bit panicky. Scott didn't have it, but I barely heard a whistle, and, looking into the glare, I thought I saw Ray wave to me.
Crap, Ray was pretty far away, and in the wrong direction from where I entered the lake. But, it kinda looked like he was waving, so I hiked over to him.
Praise The Lord!! Ray had picked up my tray on his bathroom run, and was somehow keeping his eyes on me from a looong way away!! What a gentleman! We chatted for awhile, and I gave him one of the secret jigs for his efforts.
I made the long walk back to my spot, feeling rather alone. The fishing actually got better around 2 pm, with four fish in the next half hour! I should have re-tied my jigs after those four trout, and finally lost another jig at 2:30, and decided it was time to see the wife for Christmas Day anyway.
Ended the day with about a dozen fish iced and released (except for the two suckers.)
Thanks Ray, with the awesome fishing Camper "1. 2. Fish"
P.S. It's a 1/16 oz. glow tube tipped with wax worm.
Happy Holidays
