Head was on, to be honest didn't look close enough to see if they had been cleaned or not, another place that couldn't hurt to give a call too would be Charlie's seafood market on eighth

You might also be able to find mackerel and other pike baits at:  Pacific Fresh Fish

Thanks Guys for the info :::BUT  I would rather use bait from a Bait shop  than from a Fish Market or Super Store  EXAMPLE      Smelt from the Great Lakes   could be carriers of VHS Disease or whatever
There is a ban on using anything  from the great lakes for bait , Fish markets sell them  I don't recommend  using them ……..  So for the sake of saving a few bucks going to grocery store  , I d rather buy it from a bait shop .  CFIA Canadian Food Inspection Agency and USDA/ APHIS  United States Dept Agriculture   Have lists of. fish that carry deadly disease  that will kill fish  but will not effect  humans. Its our resource we got to protect it.  Just my 2 cents worth .

Virus can live outside a living creature for a couple of hours. A frozen fish is not dangerous. A live fish may be a carrier and not show any signs..  A big dead   Mackeral would be a very safe bait.. I like my live bait and get it according to the rules, within the water shed. that is why the dealers run out of bait, because they only have so much then they cannot bring in anymore from outside the safe zone.. Early in the season no problems later it is hard to find bait.. Small pin heads are good for perching but big pike minnows  run out.
