Fishing knots
« on: Dec 05, 2013, 08:55 AM »
I found this link on another IS thread for the J knot and thought it would be good to share with everyone.  Just hope I can remember how to use them once I am on the ice and need to make a repair or rig up something new...

http://www.netknots.com/fishing_knots/

What is your go to knot?

Mine is the Palomar Knot for the hook and Arbor Knot on the other end.

For braided/super lines I like the Nanofil knot.It is basically a double palomar. Super strong and easy to tie.

Strongest line to hook was Palomar. Strongest Line to line was Advanced Albright

The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad.

My favorite is the palomar for jigs, and the advanced albright for line to line.

Line to line I use the Bimini, either loop to loop or loop to Ball bearing swivel, both are stronger than any of the knots that have been suggested... MORE THAN 100%. Most angler won't take the time to learn or tie, but if you want a knot that will not break, learn the Bimini Twist!

Just a note about the PALOMAR knot. I learned the hard way (moisten the knot before you cinch it tight.) I did it dry and this makes it weak. Just a good tip.                          Fat Fish

most all knots should be wetted as they will burn when cinched down weakening the line.

I was on a bus and just happened to be sitting on a news paper. This guy came up and asked. "Are you reading that ?"
I said  yes, stood up, turned the page and sat back down.

Super interesting, not sure if anyone has ever seen "Knot Wars", but it aired on TV a while ago. Basically they test each knot's breaking strength.....

You have to wet this knot.  I just stick it in my mouth as I tighten it.
