I wait unitl after Christmas or late in the season for the close-outs.  Even buy display models or open-box items at 1/2 price.

X2 on gander sucking.  there website is terrible compared to cabelas but also there stores are no good.  I went in there to grab some ice fishing line for the season and they had two people on staff throughout the whole store.  I finally found the person who worked in the fishing section and asked him a few questions about fishing line and all he could say was i dont really fish much!  Seriously?  On top of that they do have poor selection and they are way over priced.  In the day and age where you can find all kinds of deals on the internet from suppliers nationwide there really is no need to shop at gander mnt.  Ill go to cabelas store every now and then but thats a different story.  That place is awesome and despite the fact that they charge a lot too at least you can find some bargains there and on their website.  just my two cents

Most of the times, I find Fleet Farm to have better prices than Gander and Cabela's.  Sometimes can get good email coupons from Cabela's, but hour drive, you lose the savings in gas.

I have a Gander ~4 miles away and FF that is ~14 miles away.  Cabela's is 44 miles.

Fleet definitely usually has the best prices. Also dislike Gander for a few other reasons as well, but I'm all for saving a buck or to. Like the 6061s, everyone has them for $99.99 so if someone wanted one, getting them for $80 vs $100 would be huge.

Living in MPLS Cabelas is a hike for me too however i do most of my shopping online; they have a great website.  I do like fleetfarm a lot and they have good prices but sometimes they just dont have what im looking for like cabelas does.  I do like their store a lot though!

FYI- they are opening a new cabelas in woodbury next fall for all those who live closer to the cities :-).  might not be too much closer for you living in forest lake however...
