I've never fished for trout through the ice. Gonna have to find me a teacher once we move up that way.

trout are about the easiest fish to target through the ice, imo.  Not much finesss to them most of the time.

Hebgen def has big trout in it, pushing into double digits, but they are rare.  The most consistent fishing for large trout is canyon ferry in my opinion.  Consistent trout in the 2 to 4 pound range.  So I guess it depends on what your definition of big is, and what how you fall on the size/numbers/effort continuum.

And the state record brown came out of wade lake, but that was a long time ago.  If you don't mind crossing the border, Henry's lake has huge trophy worthy fish.

yeah if you are gonna go after fish in quake and hebgen it would be a disservice to yourself to not hit Henry's but it closes on the new year

There are probably few lakes in the country that rival Henry's Lake for big trout and generally good action.  The blackfoot rez lakes have big fish, but do not often provide hot action.  Henry's Lake can offer both fairly consistently.

I second this! The lakes on the blackfoot rez are the best trout fisheries I have found for consistent big fish. I would also add Dog Gun and Hope to the list. The only downside is you have to pay extra for a tribal fishing permit.

not a lot. Its windy, cold, plenty of snags, sun doesn't shine much, and not very good access, but some do.. me for one.... about a half dozen times a season or so. Let me know if you make it this way.

This thread might help a little. The reports have been archived.

I have ice fished Quake Lake multiple times and have had decent luck there with good size trout.  I fish Hebgen lake every year and all the trout I catch there are medium to large.
