Honda Lite: Any changes this year?
« on: Nov 15, 2013, 09:34 PM »
Hey guys,

I'm in the market to get a new auger. I upgrade augers every other year or so, basically to keep the mileage low. I'm really liking the idea of the Honda engine on the Honda Lite since all of my lawn power equipment is Honda powered. I have a dealer who has a new one left over from last year and is willing to deal on it. My question is if they have made any changes from last year's introductory model to the brand new ones for this year? Were there any issues on the first year models?

I will also say that my last 2 augers have been Solo Lazer Mags. I ran these things tough for years and never had a single issue. Am I being silly for wanting to change somthing that's not broken and just buy a new Solo again?

Thanks in advance,
Andy

I ran the Honda for about a month last year but it really lacked power at elevation. I do most of my fishing between 9,000 - 10,000 feet and I was slow to get through 24" - 30" of ice. Replaced it with a Lazer Pro and couldn't be happier!

I have only heard about two issues with the Strike Lite augers with the Honda engine. One was engines locking up or whatever and it was due to them being on a stand in a store and people were pulling the engines over without oil in the crank case which would mean one still in the box for me. The other was people putting too much oil in the crank case which made them smoke. I was considering a Strike Lite this year and now I'm leaning toward a Nils Master for a several reasons. The warranty which is seven years, I can open old holes, I can use it during first ice as a hand auger and the cost is $30 more than an 8" Strike Lite. I keep mixed gas around for a snow blower and leaf blower during winter anyway so the 4 stroke wouldn't be a real advantage to me. The Strike Lite looks like a really nice auger to me also. I also considered a Jiffy Pro 4 Lite, but the handles are too big for drilling in my wheel house. Good luck with which ever auger you end up with.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.
