Hey JTD - Well, that all depends on what you mean by larger bulls - I've caught some pretty nice ones up there the past few seasons - You can check out my many posts on EFR for more info & pics - Happy reading & take care!! - SpitzoMT

@ JTD - No bulls in the double digits weight wise - I would guesstimate the heaviest at maybe 4lbs. - Most are in the 19 to 25 inch range - Very nice fish, very aggressive, they just attack the hook - Also, keep in mind that Bulltrout are a catch & release species -

EFR = East Fork Reservoir

Yes, read my posts from last season - There pretty specific & there's some decent pics -

You stated you live pretty close - Where exactly is pretty close?? - I'm located in Anaconda - It's roughly a 78 mile round trip for me every trip - The season usually starts up there about mid December - It is usually hardwater fishable 3 to 4 weeks after G'Town - Tae care!! - SpitzoMT

I live in butte. They are just a really neat fish I think. A 4 pounder is fantastic!  I caught one up at swan lake probably 8 years ago. It was a beautiful fish.it was gray in color and had pink spots on it. At that time you were allowed to keep one. You still mite I'm not sure. It was pushing 5 lbs but the funny thing is I caught it on a tip up rigged with a dead smelt. So when I was pulling in the line thinking wow my first pike and saw that nice bull trout I was surprised. It'd be cool to catch one again. Ive been dabbling a bit with fish taxidermy so I might have to make a swan trip again to try and catch a keeper. If you can that is.

@JTD - I figured you probably lived in Butte - I work with a bunch of Butte guys - Yes, they are a very neat fish - They're shaped like a torpedo & hit the hook like one - You're experimenting with fish taxidermy huh? - Cool, guess I'll know who to talk to when I catch one big enough to mount - LOL -

Spitzo is definetely the EFR guy on here. I've fished it a bunch as well. Used to catch nice Cutts all day long with the occasional bull. fishing has slowed in the last few years but thay're in there. Caught a 20" couple summers ago. Make sure to post reports if you go up and check previous posts, lots of good info. My old EFR fishing buddy is moving back to MT so i hope to make a couple trips this year. Hopefully catch Spitzo up there. Great place to camp as well.
