Ice shanty plans
« on: Sep 02, 2013, 09:36 AM »
First and foremost thanks for the information I have read here over the years.  Never posted (I dont think) cus whats a GA Boy gonna tell a bunch of fishing folks?
Well, my neighbor got me out on the ice a few years ago, since then I have everything needed to fish including a FatFish 9416, Auger won at a local contest....  I need bigger and more comfort.  Thus this post...

I am looking to build a Ice House and have a few concerns and questions.  Background info, 8' x 10' metal sides and top, .25" ply on the walls w/2"x2" studs and 4" x  6" runners, moved with my 8' x 10' sled trailer (no sleds, just a Grizzly).

When moving a house across the lake, how do folks overcome the snow wall that will build up in front of the house?
Secondly, how do you keep this snow outta the darn holes in the floor?

Don't know about the snow being pushed in front of the shack, but maybe you could use hole covers to keep the snow out of the shack while being moved. http://www.icefishingsuppliesgearforsale.com/hole-cover/
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

Hello everyone I am new to the site and hoping someone can help me. I am planning on building a 8x8 permanent ice shanty and need some help with the plans. I never have done this and really have no idea where to start or a break down on the materials needed or preferred.  Thanks for your help.

Just be careful building a permanent shack too heavy, or it will sit permanently on shore.

Plenty of great ideas in the (ice shack tips) section.

@ ILKHRDWTR
i do not have one nor want one, but looked at it from the provided link and made some observations for you.
has an all new V - Front option and they do not show the front of it while pulling and probably for good reason.
looks like the all new V - Front  is there to plow snow away from the front end.
also, in the pics they do show plowing thru the snow, you can tell it is shaving off the top of the snow and it looks like its not in much snow to start with.

@ NorthWoods Harry
good to know about not leaving items in shacks over night in wisconsin
not so sure it wouldn't happen in south central michigan either
buddy of mine tried to talk me into leaving my suit case shelter over nite on a private lake but full of fisherman and homes. i declined and did not trust it to be there the next day.
