Side X Side Preferences?
« on: Mar 11, 2013, 08:51 PM »
Hey guys, my family is is the market for a side by side... is there any brands/models that you guys have used and really like? I would be putting a hard cab on it, so that is a huge requirement. The main purpose of this rig is for ice fishing, with some use for hunting as well. Im just looking for some input. Thanks everyone,

CI

My first thought was a fox or parker, but then I realized you meant ATV. Anything is better than I have which is nothing.

I picked up a Honda Big Red last summer and used it a fair amount this season. It worked well. I bought it primarily to move snow with at my place. I haven't tried it in real deep snow, that's what my snowmobile is for. It obviously worked out great when my wife came along. both Fish Traps fit in the back along with most of the other gear. I did build an additional storage box/auger rack that mounts into the rear reciever hitch. I don't have a hard cab for it but the windshield is a must. Good luck.

Yeah, I know someone who owns a Big Red, and I like the machine very much! I just want something with an enclosed cab though. That is the deal breaker for me.

I've ran yamaha rhinos, kubotas, rangers, and the new gators. Hands down the gators win as far as comfort and handling. Ran these and rangers several hours a day for work last summer and the gators put the rangers to shame. We had one unit with tracks and that thing was unstopable! You could drive across the middle of a marsh and never think twice.

I guess I never even considered a gator. Are these available with a cab as well?

The other day, I got to see a Kubota with a fully sealed cab and heater.. It was a diesel, but it looked like an awesome machine! Opinions?

Thanks for the input!

Wow those are two nice setups! I would probably keep the wheels on and not get tracks, but either way, both look like awesome machines! Im really liking the gator!

My father has a Can Am Commander 1000.  Its nice and all, but just not super practical.  Its a bit difficult to get in and out of.  Had the engine cooling fan fail on it already.   The fit and finish is kinda chincy too.

It depends how deep your pockets are......   The Commanders, Razors, and Wild Cats aren't made for "Work purposes" and are more of a go fast machine.

I know a lot of guys who run the Polaris Rangers and they seem to run strong and get the job done.  More of a working machine.

Im not looking for a performance Side X Side like a wildcat.. I am looking for a workhorse that will take a lot of punishment.. and gators and rangers are giving me that vibe right now.

After destroying a ranger and kubota just this winter for work, switched to a gator almost bulletproof.. We are tough on stuff so this might not compare to  a normall user but if money was no object i would run with a deere
82 pinto, acid washed levi's, members only jacket, Dekalb stocking hat, and a banana hamock

Is a gator that much more expensive?

msrp on the ranger 800 is 10500, the gator 825i is 11400 but check out one of the deluxe cabs on the gator and a polly cab for the ranger in person thats what made up my mind plus theres JD dealers everywhere it seems and not nearly as many polaris, canam or other dealers if you will be traveling with the machine

The cab will most likely be the selling point for me. Do you remember the cost of the cab? And which package is your gator? Sport, trail, etc?

We have had two polaris rangers. Both with full cabs. The first one was the older 500 and it took a beating before we traded it on a new 800 with power steering. All i can say is the ps is awesome. I wouldnt think twice about a ranger.

I was on a bus and just happened to be sitting on a news paper. This guy came up and asked. "Are you reading that ?"
I said  yes, stood up, turned the page and sat back down.
