Eskimo Grand Caravan
« on: Dec 05, 2013, 07:52 PM »
Anyone have any opinions on the Eskimo Grand Caravan shack? On the fence about buying one from someone as I don't know much about them. Appears in good condition. Just looking to hear any pro's or con's about them if anyone has one or has fished out of them. Thanks!

Looks bigger than just a 2 person shack. Bench seat has been taken out and buckets are in place of the bench style. Wondering how it pulls on the ice....Easy to set up for one person.....Being that it's Eskimo brand, does it have good quality? Stuff like that is what I'm looking to find out about it.

If you can get it for a good price I would buy it . I have a 2 man clam voyager and have no problems loading and unloading it or pulling it but a few guys say they have a hard time pulling a one man clams maybe the wider sled pulls easier i don't no I've never had a one man

I currently have a hub style and have been interested in buying a flip over style shack since last year. The opportunity presented itself and I'm pretty sure I'm picking it up on Saturday morning. Just curious, on the flip style shacks, do you have to put the poles and stuff together on the ice or does it all slide and snap into place with the conduit-looking poles? I've never really seen how anyone puts their's together that I've fished with. I've always been one to snap my hub into place and try to get my line wet before my buddy's had the chance to.  ;D

I had one a few year back. It is actually a four man flip. Pretty heavy for even two people . I think mine was 140#. Pulled easy on ice. But even a inch of snow and you'll need to pull it with something. Also make sure to get a runner kit for the bottom, the weight makes the sled wear fast. The only thing nice was the room.

Is the sled bigger than a Jet Sled XL on it? That's what I normally use and have it filled to the max with all kinds of gear that I normally take out there with me. I'm picking it up tonight so I should have a better idea of what I'm getting into. Haven't seen it in person yet.

Not sure. Sled is the largest they make. And about 1/4 thick.

It's a decent shelter.  I fished out of one for a few years.  It's BIG!  You'll like the room. But, it is heavy.  I liked the bench seat.  You can fit 3 across relatively comfortably.  Great for taking the kids out.  I did have some of the stitching pull out of the canvas in a non critical location but I fixed it.  Everything else was OK. Thinking back, the poles do seem kinds small by todays standards though.  Like I said, never a problem though.  If the price is right, it would be a good shelter.
