Frabill Adventurer / Trekker help
« on: Mar 15, 2013, 07:20 AM »
I recently purchased a Frabill Adventurer and want to convert it to the stadium or boat style seating system (has two camp chairs not so comfy) similar to the ones on the Trekker. When I contacted Frabill they said unable to do so as there is a support bar on the Trekker that is needed for support and structure of the seats. If any one could send a picture of the underside front of their Trekker so I may fashion home made support it would greatly be appreciated

That support bar just fits under the lip of the sled because the chairs fold up onto that part (the lip of the sled is the front of the chair)...this just makes them stronger because the plastic would break!  I can get some pics in bit though...

I bought the adventurer this year too and wanted to do the same thing as you do. When I called Frabill and asked if it was possible I was told by the lady she would talk to their enginer and see. She called me back and told me it could be done as long as I installed a piece of tubing inder the front lip to strengthen it.
I was told the part number for the Frabill seat kit was -807143, the price for the seat kit was $75 per kit (one seat) and shipping and handeling was going to be $16.75
I figured I'd get one seat for myself and let my kids or friends use the canp chair. ;)
Hope this helped.
Tight lines & God bless.
John

BTW I think they did say the bar is aluminum. That's what I plan to use.

I converted mine and all I did to reinforce the front was to put a 1"x1" aluminium square tube the length of the front lip.
I used longer bolts to replace the ones in the bow brackets that run through the tubing to hold it in place.

I've got a pair of the Trekker II seats as well as a base for the Trekker DLX seats.
The best thing to do is buy a pair of DLX bases and then purchase a pair of these padded boat seats locally.
You can even mount a cheap swivel between the base and seat if you want.

You can see my swivel boat seat in this pic.
I have one of the regular Trekker seats in there as well to put my tackle bag on.

Don't know how good of a pic I can get of my aluminium tube as my sled is full of all my gear for fishin' and I'm not going to unload just for a pic, 'cause I'm lazy like that.   ;D
It won't be unloaded until April when I have to start trailering my snowmobile to the lakes because the roads are snow and ice free.  :(

FYI the 1" square tube fits under the lip of the sled. You can't even see it unless you lift up the sled to look from underneath.
You can see the bracket behind me. All I did was cut a tube the full length of the lip, remove and replace the front bolts that attach the bracket to the lip of the tub. Longer bolts go all the way through the tubing to secure it.

Thanks drifter. Sounds like I'm going with the square tubing .Your pic reminded me that I have an older style Frabil 3 man with the older MSS system I may be able to convert. That sled is just to heavy and big to fit in my suv .

Figured it out by using a 1" piece of square stock aluminum cut to sled base length and bolting it atop the sled base through corner bracket and then added my older style Frabill MSS seats .easier then I thought. Took her out yesterday and worked great . The seat leans forward just a little but nothing I cant live with.

Thanks for the pictures Cook, was wondering what kind of seat set up you have ? My older style MSS system(on my older 3 ma hooks into a angle piece of aluminum and rests atop of it for support similar to my modification that I made to my adventurer . Here is a pic of my seats support.

Thanks for the pic Cook, may hafta add an angle or channel piece of aluminum to underside as not to fracture the lip edge of the sled base . Going to take her out on one or two more outings to be certain before I make any further modifications. Don't want to over engineer the modification.
