Hog Island redux
« on: Mar 22, 2013, 05:55 AM »
I went back to Hog Island again yesterday and had all the same luck as the last couple of times with a bonus of a nice 7lb pike.  The perch bite was great (one right after another) with even more of the big ones so I filled my pail again easily.  The woman at the store said guys were reporting good catches along the Maquam shore, too.  There's still a good 14 inches of ice but I think we're losing some from below.  There's a couple of inches of slush mostly around old holes because they're not freezing over and the weight of the new snow is pushing the water up out of the hole.  Speaking of up out of the hole, I had a rainbow trout once that jumped out of the hole and bit my minnow as I was reeling up the line but yesterday I had four perch that did that!

Hopefully the bite will keep up. Hoping to get up there this weekend.

I think I'll try one more time since the ice held up. I will come up to Tabor's and give these perch a run.
