Less Trash on the ICE !

I wasnt going to post this ,but wanted to share it with you all.We all rant about trash on the ice,I decided to try something & it seems to be working.The first weekend that the north end of Gull was fishable I moved one of the parks garbage cans down to where everyone walks on,put a brick in the bottom to keep it from tipping over,& a sign on it,asking people to PLEASE deposit their trash in it & not on the ice.IT IS WORKING  .The ice is almost spotless & the can is full ! I checked with the TWP. park office & they told me I could do it.Just an idea to try at your favorite lake.To everyone that has used that can I say "THANK YOU"

I go home with pockets of cigerette butts and jerky wrappers, my ol'lady hates it. But I'd rather hear her complain then have to come back to my spot and find a trash pile.

Way to go! I appreciate this more than u know! Thanks for helpin to keep this beautiful lake clean! Can't begin to explain how much trash washes ashore at me parents near the conference every year... And that's just a small portion........

I carry a little sandwhich baggie in my one pocket for my butts! it works great and my pocket doesnt stink like cigs

Nice I came off the ice at genos with 8 beer bottles and I don't even drink. People should pack there trash out with them.

The 3 reasons I posted this,was because; its working;its an idea that can be done at other places;& I really wanted to thank the people that are using it.

Kudo's to you for doing that. What I can't understand is why the state, townships, park officers whatever can't figure it out on their own. I see your point though and maybe someone in charge will take the hint and move them where it will actually get used.

just last week on the saginaw river i found like 5 or 6 little propane tanks littered all over the ice and candy wrappers chew cans pop bottles you name it was covering the ice, thank god im a nice enough person to pick it up

Trash on the ice is left by folks that care little about little other than them self's.  I stopped picking up after them when I found a pringles can full of pooh off state park.  Tells ya what kind of people fish out there....   :roflmao

Wow....That's frickin nasty. I was at Metro beach on St. Clair Wednesday and was quite surprised how little trash I found. One Michelobe Light can, one Monster energy drink can, one water bottle and a crushed empty pack of smokes. Picked up all of it. This means one of two things- either a. There are few slobs out there or b. There are many respectful people to pick up after the slobs.....I hope the first is correct.

Dude it was a surprise to remember.  I hope folks are cleaning up after themselves as well. 

How you can even pull that Pringles can thing off.  It was just wrong.

First thing I noticed this morning was all the trash on the ice. Come on people pick up your trash! Very irritating to see this.

This idea is working great! There are now has 2 garbage cans with fresh bags in them.I am really hoping that this idea spreads like wildfire.Next year I am going to try to do this at some of the other access points on Gull.Hoping the landowners go along with it.Please keep this in mind & maybe try it at your favorite lake.
