First ice on Red

Hey guys and gals,newbie to this forum have been reading some old and new posts and there is alot of good info on ice fishing here.Just a question for all you anglers out there what is a good depth to start out at for first ice on the red.

.....I'd start out cautiously at one foot.....followed by another foot........cautiously followed by another foot......so far up to 3 ft.....Grump ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Welcome aboard buddy. I would try shallow at first not that you won't have any choice as the middle with depth will be to dangerous to try at first ice. Hope this helps. I can't wait to try the Red in December on my holidays.

Thanks for the reply BW and Grump,like I said this forum is new for me and if you guys like fishing as much as I do and it sure sounds and looks like you do,then I think I'am in the right place.

Bent Rod, the best thing to do would be to poke around and find out what depth they are biting at now.Maybe I can give you a clue, they seem to be in at 15 feet and down. Yesterday we were catching them around 8-9 feet. Usually they will still be in those areas come first ice. Try around Sugar Island for first ice. You won't have to go out far at all.
