So is anyone else fishing...this is as slow as it gets. Kind of hoping someone else is experiencing the same results. I guess its almost time to give in and call it a day!

I just got back from Candlewood. I checked the New Milford arm. I saw several sets of tracks out on the ice, but I did not see anyone fishing. There is a few inches of slush on the ice, however I don't have a spud bar, and I did not walk out to check the thickness. Before the snow, I fished on 5-6 inches of black ice.

Tonight down into the 20's and Saturday night down in the single numbers, should harden it up. I may check CW tomorrow or just go the NW corner.

It was all frozen when we got there but by 10:00 am we began to break through the top snow ice which had some water under it and about 5" of solid ice. You never get used to the feeling of ice breaking under your feet only to be caught by another layer of ice below you. We had to laugh as the first time it happened I almost did a spread eagle on the ice as I thought i was going through. There was plenty of ice and the top should refreeze tonight or tomorrow night with temps down in the single digits. But check where you go as that lake is different everywhere.

Used to catch trout is correct it has changed from the good old days. It is an open water bass tourney lake, jig the jumbos if ya know the spots and deal with the big time draw down body of water.

In the 90's we used to get some big brown holdovers, the trout fishing is no we're as good as it used to be.

Im guessing you guys dont know how to fish the place. I catch consistant jumbo perch and occasional 4lb smallie or 18'' brown. Its a great lake and yeah you sorta need to know the spots to get the fish but im sure if you just find a weedline or dropoff then you'll be successful.

I have no problem catching bass and big perch, I was talking about big browns.  We hit the reservoirs over the line now if you want to find trophy browns in the 5-10lb range, or candlewood for stockers.

Oh yeah, i know a good spot but its where a river runs into the lake and im guessing because of the flowing water there would be 0 ice.
