Ice Forming
« on: Feb 07, 2006, 08:31 PM »
With the coming of cold temps here in southeast PA (Berks County) do you think that ice will start to form again, and how long does it need to be till it gets to a safe thickness?

Thanks

If we can get the wind to die down and get the lakes locked up it can put on a good 1/2 to an inch per night with the temps they are calling for.  With all this wind it may be hard to get things going again. :-\
Bring on the ice!!!!!!!  <br />

There's still good ice... but you'll have to do a bit of driving... Poconos', etc.

After the 15th and 16th, it goes right back down for at least the next week on accuweather.com.  By far the most reliable weather site I've found.  We'll be on in a few days.

All this snow will do is insulate any ice that has formed, already. When it gets really cold tonight, almost no new ice will form under the snow. Also I assume the wind will be ripping as well, so any open water will be staying open. This is a scenario that is repeated over and over in the Southeast, making it a frustrating place to live if you like ice fishing. As stated above there is still good ice in the Poconos, and that is your best option. The old guys and locals are still taking trout at Scotts Run in the open areas, if you are jonesing to fish.
