Just took a drive out there , the north side has some open water , there has been a few holes punched by the boat ramp on the south side and the handicap point

Can't believe there's open water there as cold as its been. How's the fishing there? Just getting back into ice fishing this year and lake Yankton is one of the places I want to hit.

the north side of lake yankton is almost always still open because of the natural springs in that corner.....but over by the boat ramp and the handicap point on the south side is always safe and good fishing!

Fished Lake Yankton this weekend both Sat and Sunday.  Had heard reports of fish being caught but we struggled all weekend.  A few other fisherman we talked to were having the same struggles.  Caught a had full of gills and some bass.  Did catch two decent cats.  Had one 4in walleye on a tip-up.  Hopefully it picks up.

rags,
Not really any size to the fish other than the cats.  There was a lot of spots where you could see that people were fishing so Im guessing something was biting at some point.

How thick was it out there?

We moved to Yankton last year and I haven't been out around here at all. I was wondering about Lake Menno or Marindahl or Swan Lake. I'm just looking for some places to get some action. Not really worried about finding monsters.

Marindahl has some good crappies ,  gills, and sunnies , last I  knew menno had some good fishing also , swan might be alright as it hasn't froze out for a few years

Yote,
If ya dont mind me asking, what area of Lake Yankton were you fishing?  We fished it for two days and only caught one small walleye.

FF,

I have been fishing the channel near the cabins. VERY slow today. Watched some pretty nice eyes come in on my minnow but none of them wanted to hit it. Couldn't convince them to bite anything. Caught some bass and gills tho.
keep yer stick on the ice.

Anyone heard anything or been out on Lake Yankton lately?  I ask about it when I was in Captain Norms last Sunday but the lady helping me didn't know.

Was out this afternoon   Caught two bass jigging and had about 5 flags go up all day and one bass on tip ups.  Everything else dropped the bait more than likely small bass too.   I am still cold

Good luck on on lake yanton, I would realy like to get over there this weekend, but I don't think I can pull it off. DNR guy told me last weekend the ice above the dam is very good also, and the release from the dam is very low.
I would to try that also. If anyones been to either lake recently give us an update.
Thanks

Fished here yesterday. Caught 3 bass and 9-10 small gills. Buddy caught a 6 pound cat, a couple keeper gills and crappie. I didn't see him get the cat but I guess it was a heck of a fight lol. Ice was about 6-8 inches where we were.
