Long Lake (Porter County)
« on: Feb 01, 2013, 02:43 PM »
Checked at 1p.m today.  Spud went thru on first swing. Looks to be 2" of iffy ice at best. A large hole of open water on the north end still. The south end "looks" better but who knows, i didnt check south. Be careful because it looks like we will have 3-4" and then 1-2" in different places due to the open water. If I had to guess I would say maybe monday, but thats a guess. Spooky stuff

Did those redears make a comeback yet? Pike and walleye for sure. Oh and yellow perch too.

Yes it has perch. No numbers. Once in a while you can get a nice one but its not known for good perch fishing. Yes the ramp on the North end is public, one of a few left on the chain

I've caught walleye, pike, crappie, crossbred sunnies, channel cat, largemouth bass,  bullhead, crappie and bowfin there they found out about redears and wore them out. Some guys have to keep more than they need and ruin it for others. Selective harvest does matter in small lakes. packing out your trash matters everywhere. JMO

Thanks for the ice info, guess its a waiting game for now
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

Checked it this morning. At the boat ramp, one good hard swing of the spud broke thru.  2" of slush/snow on top. Didnt make it past 10 ft. I thought it would have been good but not for me. :-\
