Nobody got out around here? Or saw anybody fishing somewhere?

I looked at sunset over in RI yesterday, open water in the middle and around most of the docks.

I want to get out tomorrow somewhere, but if there is not safe ice then I'm going walleye fishing. Couldnt make it out today so I'm going tomorrow for sure.

Fished on 10" today. Shoreline was gone, need a board to get on. Fishing sucked.

No, I've never fished there before and wouldn't have any idea where to go or what to do. Maybe next year I'll take some trips over there. I'd love to get into some big yellows sometime.

Looks like I'll finally be able to get out this weekend again... if I can find ice.

Anyone know if the the Rock Creek area still has safe ice? Sabula? Any other suggestions, I'm in the Clinton/Camanche area, willing to drive a bit if I need to.

From what I have seen we lost 2-4" the last warmup. So any place that had 8-10 should be okay if you can get on. Shoreline is gone, have to use a board or a log to get on. Rock creek will be muddy from the rain we had, probably ate away at the ice also. So will sodus and shaft. Haven't heard of anyone fishing sabula in 3 weeks, not sure what is up with that place.

I was over by the camp grounds there was about 5 inch of ice. I stayed about half-hour. The water is very very dirty and the ice was cracking and poping bad. I swear I could fill the ice move when the crack come cracking by. I was here in the morning and there was not one car there. It maybe coming to an end for this old boy.

Sorry!! Rock Creek area ;D

From reading what you post on here you would have no problem on Clear as it is a pretty easy lake to fish. All you need to do is print off the map of the little lake from the DNR website & find a certain depth depending on the time of year. The fish are virtually all over & pretty willing to bite, just need to get into the correct depth to increase your catching numbers or species. Seriously, you would not have any problem.

West Lake in Davenport was 3/4's open Thursday. Caught one Rainbow & one small bluegill Wednesday the 13th fishing with an ice jig, wax worm and bobber in open water. Missed a number of bites. There was actually two guys ice fishing by the handicap dock 150 yards away.

They run an aerator to keep the water open around the jetty and boat house, as a result as soon as the temps turn warm half the lake opens up. Back before they ran that aerator we used to ice fish over there where the jetty is now and do very good. I think that lake has some serious springs in it also, I've had times where there was 8" of ice everywhere then you will be walking along and find a 15'X15' patch of skim ice in the middle of nowhere.

I would not recommend ice fishing there in any place but the far left corner right now, its only 3' deep there to begin with so if you go through you shouldn't be in too much danger. They were catching trout there, if you want to sit all day and catch glorified creek chubs.

All true. I've caught a lot of crappies on Lake of the Hills and Lambach when half the lake was still frozen. Not real fond of trout either, but it was nice be able to fish with the long pole in open water. I like a little more ice for my large butt.

Really? crappies in lambach? I've fished that lake dozens of times, both ice and open water and cannot seem to find any. People are always telling me they are in there, but I cant find them. West lake is a different story.. as many 6-7" crappies as you want to catch.

Lambach is fickle. Try the dam from the pipe towards 280 when the ice first goes out with a North wind blowing at you. The big lake, while you are correct about the number of small ones, there are big ones to be found. Getting through the small ones is frustrating.

I'm going to try that. Ever try around the xmass trees on the dam side in lambach? Or is the water too low to fish them this year? I havent fished there since last spring. I've pulled some BIG bass off those trees right after iceout.

Caught everything that swims in Lambach around those. It is also good in the summer when you get some floating moss out from 4-8 ft and throw a scum frog across it. Bass smack it good. They drug a bunch of trees out there a few years ago toward the southeast corner of the dam, but they put them out pretty far. I have the best luck when it is a pretty strong North wind on the dam. I don't if it is the wave action or what, but I plucked 19 nice crappies out of there one afternoon with half the lake still froze. Don't give up on the big lake, it has some nice ones.

I believe that time I was using a panfish assassin & crappie nibble. I normally use a silver phantom color & chart. crappie nibble. Lately, I have been happy with the one inch gulp minnows in the emerald shiner color on a 1/64th jig head.

Been catching quite a few crappie through the ice on the 1" minnows and 1/64 heads. Black shad color.
