a good thing to note is how many have gone thru thick ice due to a bad spot or a gas pocket of snow hiding something (snow always sucks)  its always good to have others in earshot and keep your eyes open.

went in on late ice . ran over to help two guys that had to be in there 80's . it sucked

I went through a soft spot once to my waist, but caught myself from going completely under.  This was in a main entry point to lake where probably 20 guys had already walked that day.  It was getting warm out and ice was melting, but I still felt like the fatboy on the ice for being the one to go through...........

Yes it is a 50/50 trend. But...
What if we had a tally of how many ice outings combined in this thread?
I'm 35 and have a good chunk of ice time under my belt. I'm sure there are plenty of dudes that have triple the ice time that I have.

30+ years on the ice...the last 20 years of that I have been on ice 30-60 days a year...

The more time you spend on ice, the more you realize THERE IS NO SAFE ICE. 

It is up to YOU to be safe , while on ice.

Twice..playing hockey. One time totally under. One of the scariest things. When ice fishing we carry throw lines and wear our safety spikes.

Never have gotten wet, and sure don't plan on it. I use to go ice fishing alot with my dad, but didn't really go at all for 15 yrs. This winter been hitting it hard. Forgot how "good" it feels to have ice cracking under you when ur over 25 ft of water. Yester we had 5-6 guys over 200 lbs on ice at one point. There was 5-7 inches of ice. A couple times I'm sure my heart skipped a beat. Really gonna get a floating suit by next winter. Defintately could be the differnece between life or death for you or others. Just checked out the AA Plus suit and it says they have enough bouyancy for you plus 2 others. Sounds like a life saver...Stay safe!

Yes, i did have the experiance of falling through thanks to the old timer "SILVER SPRINGS BILL" ...he drilled 4 10"holes in the walkway out of Macks on Silver Lake..not sure why someone would drill a spot out that big in a walkway but whatever i guess it gave me this story to share lol

No I haven't and I hope I never do.  I do carry spikes and a throw rope just in case but, I hope never to have to use them.

Yes, Twice and the cold sure makes you move fast to get out!! Once on Lake Erie and once on Chautauqua.

Gone thru up to my thigh. I know its not fully thru but it was enough to get cold!

Yes, fell through the ice on Otter Lake in the early 80's was still a greenhorn to the ice.
