Deer Creek Reservoir... Anyone Been By?
« on: Jan 28, 2013, 01:29 PM »
I was thinking of a "half day" on Thursday and driving up to Deer Creek Reservoir for the afternoon/evening bite... anyone one been by and/or seen (or heard) of action on the ice up there? I saw one report from the 16th or so, but nothing since.

I've never fished it through the ice before and was curious where the traditional "safe ice" locations should be (if there were such a thing as safe ice).  ;)

The edges are getting tricky.  They are holding water, and the reservoir is filling.  As the water rises, the ice pulls away from the edges.  Once you are on, the ice is 6 to 8 inches thick.

Thanks guys. I'll make good use of my spud, poking around before getting on.

I'm hoping to get into some decent perch and maybe a bonus rainbow (or two). Walleye may be asking too much for the first trip, but I intend to stay until darkness... so one can hope.  :)

I should be able to get there around 1:30/2:00 for a look-see. Worst case scenario the edges are crap and I drop back onto Utah Lake on the way home. Either way I'll post a report Thursday night.

Cheers!

Just saw a couple of really lousy reports from DC yesterday on BFT... sounds (and looks) like the edges have opened up (substantially in some areas), and what's left is pretty soft too.

Might need to rethink the direction that I drive in on Thursday. Have to see how this latest snow event plays out.

5º for the low, 26º for the high so far today.  I can say that there was rain on Saturday, but it didn't seem to soften the ice.  Saw a tent by the island, and 3 guys South of the tent on the camera earlier.

Just drove by about an hour ago and there were some people out on the ice.  Looks like the edges are a little soft so be careful.
