Don't buy a Clam 2000
« on: Jan 28, 2013, 04:41 PM »
I little bit of a warning if anyone is looking to buy a shanty. I bought a Clam 2000 and used it once and then the second time it broke.  One of the poles wouldn't come up from the base, then when I was trying to get it to come up the pole broke off the base so the pole isn't attached to the house on the bottom anymore. Also, the zippers were really hard to open and close, and the handle to the zippers broke off and bent because of how hard it was to zip them up. I am very dissapointed in the quality of the shelter. These kind of things shouldn't have happened so soon. I wish I would've just spent another 100$ and gotten a higher quality house. Next year I will have to make more of an investment.

I own a clam 2000. I haven't have any problems yet. However, I can see a possible durability issue with it. Seems the fabric of the shanty is becoming pourus. You can start to see light coming through in spots. Had it for 3 years and only use it few times a season. Overal all i'm happy with mine but I can see why you would be dissapointed with your clam2000 purchase. I wouldn't be happy either if things were breaking.

Sounds like you got a lemon, take it back and exchange you shouldn't have a problem returning it if you have the receipt.

sounds like operator error and like your too hard on it.... i have no problems with mine and for the zipper if you have the leg's stretched out too far they are hard to zip... if you have to pull hard something is wrong, so stop and think its your own fault if you just keep pulling out of frustration and break it....

I assure you it wasnt operator error. I wasn't even pulling it hard at all. Luckily, Cabelas has great customer service and are going to refund it.

had a problem like that with mine.fished three days in a row, shanty stayed outside every nite, and the condensation from heater frosted my poles together.mine was 6 yrs old at the time.we were 5 miles out on erie and had one heck of a time with it.
bought a flip over last year because of that day,but it has expanding pole on it too.I keep them lubed up now though.sorry to hear of YOUR problems!

You guys should upgrade to a real shelter. Eskimo all the way. I own a eskimo 949i and have been a little rough on it. Been absolutely great and extremely warm. Nothing has broke on me yet. My only disappointment with eskimo is that they don't make an insulated one twice that size.
