blocking it up
« on: Jan 29, 2013, 02:43 PM »
Headed out to block up the hard side... almost two inches of rain coming, 50*, with the snow from yesterday, it should be a real mess out there tomorrow and thursday.

Put it on pontoons, that way you can tow it off whenever you want....well, at least up until 4/1.
At least it wouldn't sink.

I always block mine. I'm just worried that if the weather goes bad and I may not be able to get up there. I put it on 4 cinder blocks. I worry that if I use wood and they get frozen in I'll have to fight to get em out. I don't want to create a boater hazard with floating logs. If the blocks get super buried and I can't retrieve em (which hasn't happened..yet) I'll let em go to the bottom.

Dont use cinder blocks!.

Use 4x4" blocks instead.  You can chisel em out if they get stuck, Cinder blocks don't chisel out so easy. They sink and will melt into the ice quicker than wood block.

Thanks for the tip, noted.
I'm on my 4th year with my first hardside. Thats the logic I used. I def agree and expected the concrete would heat up and melt/sink. So far I have found they drop, but when I remove them they're loose. Due to melt around them just like a lake rock.
I'll weigh it out, still developing my technique.
