Fish Finder batteries
« on: Jan 29, 2013, 08:37 AM »
Since renewing my interest in ice fishing, I have converted one of my old Lowrance color units off my boat to an ice fishing unit. Problem is the small battery I bought from Cabelas only ran that unit for about 3.5 hours on Saturday. Any suggestions as to a better way to power that unit?

LCD screens take a lot of juice especially when it's cold out. I owned an x 67 c didn't care for it went bak to a vexilar. Can run 2 and a half days without charging the battery

My Garmin 400C is 400 watts and when I run it at 100% the battery lasts about 7 hours on a small motorcycle battery. I carry a spare battery but most of the time I usually get by with one battery.
I am looking into a battery for my ATV that has more cold cranking amps  Maybe that may help the anemic fish finder batteries.   It isn't all that bad to pull two klips and hook up the second battery. Charging is about 4 hours on the charger.   I have other piecess of fishing gear that give me more grief.   These batteries cost around $22 each.

A new battery should last longer than that, regardless of whether the unit is LCD.  I would bet that your battery is no good.....

It's LCD and a full color screen loaded with lots of fish. Both batteries are one year old now.  They both had the same run time when they were new last winter.  I rotate batteries every time out and charge the used one soon as I get in.

I have a Cabela's Camera and I use a 12 volt marine deep cycle 27 or 24 type the bigger one.  I believe with like over 200 amp hours... That has last me over a 7 day fishing trip and It was only down about 50%... I have had mine now for 3 years and have never ran it below 50%... I know it is a little more money but to me it is well worth it... never have to worry.. I just made some clips to hook to the camera and the battery end I just use the wing nuts to tighten it... The smaller batteries do not last as long a few years and they're shot... I think I paid $79.00 for the one I have.. good luck.....

I have a Lowrance X67 and run the smaller sealed battery.  I get at least 12hrs + out of it.  run all  of the juice out of it then charge.  I have been told that battery create a memory of sorts. (from a salesmen of surveying equipment)    also if you can be sure you light is off or dimed. you will last longer.  good luck

When these two batteries run out of life, I will buy a deep cycle that will last much longer.

I have the Lowrance Elite 4 and have used it for well over 12 hours and the battery indicator is showing almost 75% left. Going to use it until it is drained to see total hours I get from one charge. I have a spare so will not be left out in the cold .
