Its not coming out. Ive tried to pry under the top gear and nothing. I just noticed a c-clip in the lower gear.

Yes but the top gear must come off first. I don't remember having to do anything special to mine to pull the gears. That top gear has to come straight off because the bottom of the gear is a shaft and is in a bearing.
Check out page 8.

I wouldn't bother taking them out, just take a screwdriver or something and pull a little grease out around the edges of the gear.  By the looks of your first post, most of the excess has already spewed out.  Just pull out a few gobs to be sure.

Thanks for the link. I want to take it out so I can clean it all up before I put new grease in it. It must be tight in the bearing below the gear. If I cant get it out I will just get as much as I can out.

The owners manual says to use 4oz of grease and cautions not to over fill.

MAINTENANCE
1. The gear case has 4 oz. of grease installed at
the factory. It is recommended that once a year
the gear case be split and the grease level
checked. Add grease only if level of grease is
below top of the gears. DO NOT OVERFILL.
