West Metro Sight Fishing Report 1-26
« on: Jan 26, 2013, 08:45 PM »
Another day of sight fishing. The little bass and a couple perch were very active this morning and did well to entertain between a couple nice pike that came through. I wasn't able to convert on either one, but they both had my heart going while trying to get the strike. The PK Pink White 1/8 ounce Flutterfish tipped with a couple maggots was an easy sell on the perch/bass.

The fish stopped moving around in the afternoon.

Give a man a fish feed him for a day, teach a man how to fish gives you an excuse to leave on the weekends!!

Between Maple Grove and Plymouth.  Most of the lakes should be clear this year with the really low water levels.  That is only in 8' of water and it has gotten worse over the month.  The underwater diving clarity reports on Minnetonka are even better sounding.

There is no better way to fish.  Learn the action of your lures.  Taunt the little perch/bluegills/bass and see how long you can't catch them.  Then a pike comes along and gets the blood pumping.  I used to spear a lot as a kid.  I kind of outgrew my need to jab them, but I will get my one big one sometime in the future.  In the meantime, I get the experience of spearing without losing the ability to release them.

I wish there was a "standard" for the spear holes.  I grew up stacking my ice blocks, marking the hole with a big branch, and not moving the house around far from where I started.  This will quickly get a bad rap if lots of people start making big holes, pushing the blocks in to hide the hole, and then don't mark the thin ice spot.  Other people around here will drive around on the ice clueless trying to find the thin spot and then point fingers when something happens.  Cut big holes and mark them responsibly so as to not give anyone ammo to hurt MN's resident spearing season.
