hi all, debate mealies vs waxys vs spikes

No longer another lurker  hello every one. curious for opinions what you guys prefer durability, longevity and of course what you you think is the best lip magnet

good question!  welcome to the site.  i really think it might be a personal preference thing.....but moreso a confidence thing.  if you prefer waxies (like i do) then i bet you will catch more fish with them than mealies since you are more confident with them. 

mealies must be more durable......

I never used anything other than waxies because I've always been told they are the best.  I can't say about the others but I can tell you waxies work very well for me.

I prefer waxworms. Maybe I just happened to find fish one day when I was using them so I think they're the best, which may be the same reason why I like halis/Kodiak perpetual motion/Shucks lures best.

I've also caught fish on spikes and mealworms.

I personally like butter worms the most but they are a little pricey.

I get spikes maggots and mousies but the maggots seem to work best for me.  Also like pairing live bait with a gulp product.  Which gulp works best is another area of debate I'm sure.

glad to see so many replies so quickly, going to try wax and meal worms tomorrow on the same setups, report to come  hopefully its not just the ice thickness

Welcom to the site...personally mousies are the best but when few or no baitshops have them the spikes work just as well.

I use mousies and love em, but ive been trying the maki and impulse plastics and done well this season with them. Welcome and good luck out there.

I go out with wax and spikes and switch up during the day.   This year I've had more luck with wax.

I always loved mousies but since their so hard to find I have turned to spikes, not as good in my opinion,I'm old school I use spikes to catch a perch and then I use a perch eye.

I have always used minnow heads. Can find a ton of dead ones around old tip up holes after people close up shop for the day. I always do well with em and rarely have to buy bait. I did try spikes the first time this year and they are almost as good. But 100 dont last very long.
