Valpo and ?s
« on: Jan 20, 2013, 06:25 PM »
Went out to a private spot in valpo.  No bites no fish 3 in of ice is sketchy.  I wore my life jacket the whole time.  No snow, clear, slick ice. It wa making all kinds of noise like a submarine, you could hear it coming from across the lake.  As night drew near you could hear popping and cracking.  I got out of there!  It's on for next weekend.

1.  What's the best way to reduce line twist when spooling?

2.  What is your go to color/ style of jig? For gills.

3.  Can't you just use power pro on tip ups?

4.  Can you use regular mono line ?

More than likeley with the low temps that noise was ice being made!!!
My go to jig for gills would be (horizontal) purple rat finkee. (vertical) burnt orange bug eye jig

power pro or super lines will cut your fingers off if you hook a nice fish, I talk from experience.  Use 30 lb braided with a flo carbon leader say 2 to 3 ft
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.
