Jack Traps

I love my Jack Trap tip up! I do great with it and catch lots of fish. I have caught perch and pike the biggest fish being 27.5" inches. I prefer using chubs and fathead minnows on them. The reels are very smooth and will catch almost any species. Mine is the 26"inch Standard with Dark Center Wood and a Hunter Green Flag. Does anyone else have them or have any reviews? If so, please share.

I have a set of the 26" that I set up for fishing trout and salmon. I don't use them much because I usually fish for pike, perch and walleye, but when I do use them I love them. Nice smooth reels, they hold a lot of line, and no wind flags. Great for trout and salmon. ;D

I use beaver dams and really like them. After watching the you tube video of the tour of the Jack factory in Maine, I decided I have to get at least one for my arsenal. Good looking trap, and the quality is superb.

5 big bobs and 5 trout jrs here. i like the big bobs for spreading way out in deep snow on the big lakes and the trout jrs fishing in close to shore for light biters. beaver dams and heritage traps stay home now

How far apart do you set the big bobs?

It depends on where I'm fishing and what area I want to cover.

I have two sets. I have Jack jrs and the 31" standard. I use the jrs for bows, LL, browns, perch, and crappie and use the 31" for lakers and pike. They are easily the best trap I have ever used. Nothing else comes close IMO.

I have built up to 10 x 31" standards and have been nothing but pleased.  Their quality and durability are simply tops.  I keep some pre-rigged for pike, some for walleye, splake and coho, while others are set for deep water lakers...still waiting for that ice.  I really haven't had to make any modifications other than adding big bait, heavy weight release clips for my pike and laker tip-ups.  I think this is a much better approach than building an adjustable drag.  Also, I epoxied some of the split rings at first to make them rigid but this broke down over time and I haven't had the need to redo it as I find setting the flags not as challenging as others seem to.  Again, I couldn't be a more enthusiastic supporter of these tip-ups.

I picked up a big bob to try this year and will definitely be ordering more, BEEFY. I finally found a tipup that can survive more than one season of my abuse.

Have a few sets of 26" standards & 31" cross traps. Have had no issues with either type. Smooth well made traps. Would like to try a few Indianhill traps. Haven't seen one up this way yet, but what I have read sounds like they are nice traps as well.
