new ice rod slicks.
« on: Jan 08, 2013, 07:30 PM »
bought rod slicks for my ice rods. after a day on the ice i came home to find 2  busted rods. very unhappy. these slicks offer no protection for the rod itself and only helps rods from tangling. i have used tubes out of old golf bags for years and they are the best. you can buy these tubes at meijer for about a dollar and get 2 covers out of each. cap the top, cut small slit for reel to fit snug. and secure it  in with hair tie. cannot beat it for quick rod use and for guys like me who frequently swith rods and throw them in sled, no worrys of breaking.

A rod slick rod sock wouldn't be my first choice to protect a rod from impact. I could see using them on each individual rod inside a hard case so they Dont get tangled up. I've been using a st Croix case for several years now and I've been happy with it.

As mentioned before, these are not sold as rod protectors, only to prevent rods from tangling in each other.I have used these for many years and put the Slicks on the rods, and place the rods in a preotective case. In all my years ice fishing, I have never broken a rod in transportation. I have always transported both ice and soft water rods in some type of carrying case.Hope these were't real expensive rods but now is the time to get a good price on a case. ;)

i understand the whole concept of the rod case, but cant you just twist rods up to prevent tangling. to many steps when i can take the cheap tubes and not have a single worry, plus quick and easy. you can also keep these tubes in case as well. just my thoughts but using the sockpurpose would work. one rod i broke never left the house. also slick material with snag hooks on u as well. just not worth the extra money to me. anyone wants them i live in jackson, and i will give them to you free of charge, plus show u tubes. those only cost a dollar for 3 of them. ;D

So you're upset that a product not designed to protect your rods, didn't protect your rods?

The rod slicks are great when I use them in the rod case when transporting.  Nothing gets tangled, but they are safe in the case.
