Pike Bait

Where should I hook a 4"-5" inch minnow? I have heard the dorsal fin but also some people think it is a good idea to hook them in the head.

I hook mine there but I also have hooks in the tail and head, but my baits are 6 inches and up I also use a needle sometimes to put the line under the skin, the head and tail hooks are tied onto the main hook the needle makes it nice and neat with no slack line hanging around

for pike, even better, dead bait. We use 6-10" Herrings and Smelts here and have no problems icing a lot of pike and big ones. Pike are lazy as well as aggressive at the same time, overactive bait can actually drive them off.

Dead bait does work for pickeral but using only when jigging but i'm assuming you are looking for tipup bait so for pickeral i would try to stick to 3-5 inch livies depending on the size of fish that you are fishing.

I have caught pickerel on dead bait,if your using live bait try cutting the tail fin horizontily this will slow the bait down alot and it cant pull as hard
