TWIN BEACHES, MAR. 16&17th
« on: Mar 19, 2005, 09:02 AM »
My buddy and I fished Twin heavy on these two dates with great results! We took home almost 200 perch in the 9-12" range with plenty of smallies that went back to grow big and fat. Fished about 500 yards out and about a mile south of the Twin beaches road. Not a bad walk at all! Morning bite was hot but things cooled down after 11 AM as the maria showed up. Caught 9 of these fellas, some pushing the 10 pound mark. Have never seen maria this large! Put these guys back into a "special" hole we had drilled about 100 yards distant as they have a way of turning the perch bite off. Plenty of Tullibee action also, caught and realeased about 50 of these with some real good sized ones. One note guys, you must move around a bit till ya find em. Talked to a few crews on the walk back that had poor luck. These guys just drilled a few holes and sat there all morning! Firefighter.

Thx for boosting my hope for Twin. We didn't move around, the 3yr old made it difficult to pack up and move and it sounds like it would have helped. Other guys around us had an aqua view and were seeing lots of small perch but not many big ones, which gave me the impression that the big ones weren't there but you proved they are. It was my first time there and won't be my last...

I agree that there seems to be more big burbot than ever, possibly because the walleye/sauger numbers in the south basin are low and thus less competition for forage.
Also the tulibee seem to be on average, larger than normal and in greater numbers.

Congrats on the success... I will give Twin another go but it might be next year.

Hoping to hear of some action on the Red, if not it will be gator hunting at Falcon and BW... anybody that wants to hook-up on Tuesday I will be headed somewhere.

4 weeks til Clearwater... how many sleeps is that?

Firefighter great news on your catch. I would hope that the burbot were released at the end. I to use to use those special holes. I have now changed my ways. These fish are in the lake for a reason. Thanks again for the report.

Hey BW... not to worry all burbot were put back as we allways cut a hole some distance away from our honeyhole solely to release these guys. From past experiance we found that these big fellas do turn the perch bite off. I have eaten burbot in the past and found it mighty tasty! Like it best beerbattered and deepfried. Better than codfish at Joeys Only! My wife won't have any part of it though... she says she would rather starve than eat an eel! Also the perch we took were mostly caught on pimples baited with hog belly. This is cheap tough stuff as one can nail a dozen or more before rebaiting. Switch to small bits of salties later in the day as it seems they work better then. Perch eyes were once my favorite bait but with all this barbless stuff eyes don't stay on too well. Firefighter.

Great job firefighter.  8) 8) 8) hey I use small pieces of powerbait to leep my eyes on. It also seems to attract the perch. 8) 8)
