Pop up/hub shack as a tent
« on: Jan 04, 2013, 09:37 PM »
Has anyone ever used the hub/pop up as a tent during the summer time thinking ut would work good and it would be a great dual purpose item also then.

Only problem I see is there would not be a floor in the hub style ice shelter

Youy know, I was thinking the exact same thing !!  Although I already have Summer camping equipment, it would be nice to have an additional tent for storage so I wouldn't have to clutter up my sleeping tent with extra gear.  If you wanted to use it for sleeping, I suppose that would be fine, just use a tarp for a ground cloth.

My hub is Black and that might present some heat problems during the daytime in the Sun, but it wouldn't matter at night.  I might give it a try on our first cmping trip this year.

A problem you may encounter is no windows with screens for airflow and ventilation. You could rig something to solve that if you have the removable velcro windows. But without it, the heat in the summer would be stifling in there.  In the winter we can leave the door flapping but with the bugs in the summer... not so much.

Also most hub styles don't shed water to well so in the rain I don't think they'd fare very well.

I know lots of guys that use their Turkey blinds and big game blinds as ice tents which do have screen windows and button up fabric Windows as well.... Those would be a good tent to stay in or stor stuff in.... But if you don't have one I don't see any problem using your hub to stay in.... I sleep in mine overnight on the ice so why couldn't you use it in the mountains.

I fished out of my pop up deer blind and was just like a ice hut just the windows were mesh.

I haven't used it for camping.  Could be good if you plan your trip to early and get cold weather.  On a cold wet day you could set up the big heater and play cards at night.

I have however used it to tailgate at a spring Brewer game at miller park.  It was cold wet and rainy.  Everyone seemed pretty jealous.

Tailgating at Miller Park?  I love it!  Great idea, and a good way to get some additional use out of your pop-up.

I went to opening day in 2011 and it sure would have been nice to have my shack and heater with.  And if they would have beat the Braves.
I'm a man, but I can change, If I have to, I guess.
