Manitoba IS Get Together
« on: Mar 13, 2005, 12:26 AM »
Well, it's been an interesting one.  Grump and Trophyhunter spent the night on Lake Dauphin...I understand one jumbo perch at around 3:00 a.m. was it.  AC, his sweetie, and his brother got there shortly after 7:00 a.m.  Monophil and PerchPounder got out there this morning as well.  My wife and I hemmed and hawed over road conditions and weather predictions (it was supposed to be a windchill of -34 C here today - not a good day to have kids on the ice).  Eventually we decided to go and got out there about 2 in the afternoon after AC and company had left and just as Mountain Mama was leaving.

Things were pretty quiet, but Rock Bottom, Trophy and PerchPounder had ventured further out and gotten into some nice walleyes.  So the decision was made to move the shacks.  Shortly after moving away from the AC-accursed spot, I had a hit, but was too slow as I was shovelling around the bottom of one of the shanties to help keep the wind at bay for the kids.  A while later Trophyhunter's rod tip went down and he was off busy lighting a cigarette or something in the wind.  Perchpounder told me to grab the rod and this was the result -

A while later, I caught a bigger one, but it had to be released due to slot limit.  My wife didn't get a picture of that, but Grump did, so I'm hoping he'll post it later.

Trophy was really pounding them (as seems to be the usual) with a number of nice eaters and I saw him and PerchPounder each get one over the slot limit.  Grump eventually stopped taking photos as it was just Trophy with another fish.  :D  I didn't get details, but I think one of Rock Bottoms sons caught a nice walleye while I was there as well.

It was really great to see Grump, MM, Trophy and Monophil again and to meet PerchPounder and Rock Bottom.  Here's looking forward to next winter's get-together (although something less than a 3+ hour drive would be nice).  Before I left, we did discuss a bit about open water get togethers, but they'll wind up on MFF.

God grant me the Serenity to accept the size of the fish I catch,
the Courage not to fib about it,
and the Wisdom to know that no one would believe me anyway.

Very well done thriller.  man can that trophy fish eh. ;D ;D  The children and I did not dare venture out as we hada tough time getting back to minnedosa in this crazy wind today. One vehicle ahead of us hit the ditch and that was the final decision that we were not going. How big was that perch they caught at 3:00 AM?  Look forward to meeting you thriller. It will probably be open water season.
Enjoy life now!!!! Get on the Hardwater before it melts away!!!

I believe the perch was just over 13".  AC left his behind and it was a bit of a fattie too.

We went up on Hwy 6/68.  6 was good, but 68 had some spots.  We came back on 5/16/1 and had supper in Neepawa around 8:30/9.

Yes BW, we'll need to meet up one of these days.  If nothing else, I have a boat close to those Red River cats.  Or now that my brother is in Roblin, we could pick a spot along the southern route and take a bit of a break (Minnedosa pond or something) to get the kids out of the vehicle.

Hey TH....from what I've read on IS so far.....you don't need a camera...........you wouldn't have time to take pics when you're too busy hooking fish
