Crappie
« on: Dec 29, 2012, 06:45 PM »
I Have a shack and fish Silver Lake (Bucksport) a lot and was wondering if any one has had any luck targeting crappie during the winter.  In the summer and in the winter I will pick up the occasional fish (some quite nice).  BUT have had no rhyme or reason in catching them reliably.  If any one has some basic tips I would greatly appreciate them.

The most important thing you need is a flasher and some good safe ice.I have found that a good flasher is a must to find them and besides it is a blast to see them chase your jig. ;D

What’s the ice like over there? I ‘magine shakey at best.

We fished it one day a few years ago, Derby day...We didn’t find any crappie, but we didn’t have sonar at that point.  That makes a big difference!   I have it now - I have an extra you are welcome to try - and have learned a few things since then too. (Thanks Mad Trapper, bee and MG39!) Love to hook  sometime, if you’re up for it! There’s a few more spots near bye too.  :icefish:

I am not familiar with that lake but early and late I target shallows ( 7 to 15 feet ) and go deeper as the day goes on...flashers are worth their weight in gold on slow days...

I live very close to the lake but I haven't been out yet, the ice does NOT look even close to safe yet.   Thanks for all the input, I will be trying a few this winter. Anyone heading out to Silver is more than welcome at the shack.  :)   Light green with a metal roof and stove pipe out the top.  Usually fish off the islands and would love some visitors.
