finally wet some lines
« on: Dec 27, 2012, 03:53 PM »
went to a local spot yesterday that had some ice on it and drilled a hole about 50 feet out and found a good 5 inches of ice so I walked out farther and drilled another. flasher showed water depth varying in places but was able to locate fish relatively easy ended up catching about 50+ perch all thrown back and lost a fight with a very large fish (most likely a crappie or pickerel).  then went to magog today by the furniture factory and found a good four to four and a half inches of ice fished in 16 feet of water with flasher showing fish stacked up about hallway up the water column but were not very active they would rise up to the jig but would slowly drop back down. after a half hour of jigging we finally managed to catch one and it wasn't a perch but a damn smelt. we ended up catching a few more and left to get something to eat. as we were eating a elderly couple asked my friend and me "did you go snowmobiling?" we kindly replied that we went ice fishing and they were genuinely surprised and asked us where we went and what we had caught  and how thick the ice was to which they replied "wow you guys are crazy" we laughed and after finished our meal we bid the couple goodbye and left.
i told myself id be back by 2 i guess i didnt factor in that the fish were biting

5" of ice? I'd take my snowmobile out on that with my Jet sled Magnum loaded to the hilt.
