« on: Jan 13, 2013, 06:35 AM »
I have two which i will definately put on but can you get away with using just a single big old treble?

If so where should i hook it?

Is there any other dead bait rigs i can make on my own?
I live for pike, bass, crappie, pickerel, and anything thats big and swims! Can't go jigging without my vex!

You can, but a large single hook under the dorsal fin so it hangs horizontal is fine.  you can also thread a large single hook through the vent so it comes out the head so bait hangs vertcal.
Checkin traps and making sure there's FRESHBAIT!!!

I have had good luck with northern using a circle hook leaving it lay on the bottom. Most of the fish I got were bigger.

We use a single 2/0 -5/0 Octopus hook depending on the size bait we're using. The single Octopus hook is nice because you don't have to set the hook with the traditional method you just start reeling or hand lining without the big hook set. The fish is always hooked in the jaw area and never have a gut hooked fish. As far as rigging our bait we either balance them by hooking behind the dorsal fin (horizontal presentation) or back by the tail (vertical presentation) giving the effect of either a live or dead bait.

Single hook is all ya need, not a fan of the quickstrike rig, too much harm to the fish in my opinion.
