pointers or help on Georgetown
« on: Dec 23, 2012, 05:22 PM »
We're doing a family thing up as Fairmont the 28th-30th, can anyone give me some good pointers for where and how on Georgetown?  I don't mind sitting all day but I'll have some people who might not enjoy sitting in the cold if nothing is going on.  I've only fished twice and I don't have a good knowledge of the lake yet.  Would love to catch some Kokes.

If you want salmon you need to be there well before dawn and fish with electronics.

Don't over think this, there are a lot of fish in the lake and they usually bite.  Head to Comers, seems to be the best bite right now. You don't have to get there in the dark ( it does help at times). You will see the bite intensity fluctuate, but typically you can catch fish all day.  just use a Swedish Pimple with a rocker dropper tipped with a maggot. orangr/pink/red are good colors.if you don't have a locator,  find to 20' of water and fish 7-10' down, if you do have a locator, fish where you see them. If you more trout than salmon, fish in closer to shore. The trout hit aggressively enough that if your using a bobber you will see the bobber sink/move or whatever or you will feel them if you are jigging. The salmon sometimes bite like the trout but many times you won't notice the bite unless you are using a VERY small bobber or a light spring bobber. Read some of the Georgetown threads, you will find more than enough info to make sure you have some success. You might even be able to meet one of these guys up there if you ask. Good luck and take some pictures:)

Went out last weekend.  Got there kinda late at about 11a.m..  Forgot spring bobbers so missed a lot of bites.  They were still striking ok on a glow hook and maggots.

Also, just ordered a Marcum Ice Troller.  Should be here by this weekend.  Looking forward to using electronics rather than going blind.

A must to have on Georgetown is spring bobbers. Also I have never had much luck at Comers after mid Jan. I would try Piney Point or Phillipsberg bay in Feb. My favorite set up is using a gold flasher with a 12in drop line below with a white with pink body ratso with a maggot.  Good luck

fished for trout this last weekend in the snow.  Fishing was very slow.  We caught a few but not many.  Fished the weekend before that and did considerably better, but it still wasn't great.  My boy caught 1 big one.  Jay is right though, the best fishing is usually early.  It can vary, but usually 6:00am to 10:00 am is the best.

Pumphouse is an exception, springs, thin ice, lots of visible fish, common sense goes out the window there occasionally.

I have fished Georgetown basically my entire life, we always use glow hooks and corn.  Can't remember the last time we were skunked
