The first, and second of hopefully many, many more
« on: Dec 28, 2012, 06:07 PM »
With a list of chores as long as my leg, I thought the prudent thing to do was to put off my outing today. Had hoped to take my 6 year old out and see how he did. Once we got our work done I decided that we could give Roosevelt pond a try and see what happened. Paid off big-time. My 6 year old (a.k.a. The Bluegill Whisperer) and his brand new florescent orange ice fishing rod caught his first and second fish though the ice. Ever. It worked out great. He caught fish and for over an hour had a ton of bites. Then, when he got cold, we walked 100 yds to the truck, drove to the gas station and got hot chocolate, and drove 10 minutes home and talked about how cool he was all the way. I'm posting this because if any of you have little ones, Roosevelt seems like a great place to take the newest ice fishermen. Close to home, plenty of action. Good place to get them hooked. Have a great weekend.

AWESOME! I also like being able to fish in town, but I am on the west side. I am thinking about giving Jackson Pond or Memorial Pond in Rapid City a try sometime while I'm out of school. Nothing better to do! I know they both have Rainbows, Largemouth Bass, Sunfish, and I think Memorial has some Northerns. Anybody else ice fish in town? I might try it and let you guys know how I do. Keep getting your fishing partner on the ice!

The young lad's smile sez it all!!!!!  Way to go Pop!!!!!
Ain't this somethin?  I told my Pap and Mam I was gonna be a Mountain Man; acted like they was gut- shot.  "Make your life go here son, heres wheres the peoples is.  Them mountains is for indians and wild men."  "Mother Gue," I says, " the Rocky Mountains is the marrow of the world," and by God, I was right.  Keep your nose in the wind and your eye along the skyline.
