ice chisel- why not this?
« on: Nov 08, 2012, 09:47 PM »
Spud bar accuracy/power balance can get tricky. They have manual log splitters that have a splitting head welded to a rod, driven by a post driver. Why not do this with a chisel end? Two handed power, less misses. Like this http://www.maximmfg.com/NewFiles/fence-post-driver.html

Because those are pretty heavy. And you can't test water 2 feet in front of you with a post driver like that. If you have to stand next to it and the ice is thin,it is too late for you and your wet.

Depending on the price it would just be cheaper to buy or spend a few dollars more and get a hand auger.

Not to mention you'd have to set it up such that when the bar broke through you could keep it from going in the drink.

Good point, there is no way to keep a rope on it to keep it from splashing in.
