That thing is awesome! I might try and make one with a slightly longer rod so its more visible.

It seems the spring bobber will go down the hole in the oak, jamb and stay there, break the line and lose the terminal tackle. It should be a good diversion for the kids, any season ~ the board floats. I would add a ferrule on each side of the board.
On the other hand, with 30,000 comedians out of work, perhaps you are attempting comedy. In that case it's a real scream !!!!     :woot:
Tip down. Hmm, if you say so. I don't understand my in-law from Welsh, WV, either.    :roflmao:

This may get moved, I'm guessin' over here...  http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=112743.140;topicseen       :woot:

That is actually a cool set up.  I don't think it would register as a tip up/down in NY.  I think it would a flag or signal system.  I think I will build one tomorrow.

I am pretty sure it would count as a tip up/down in NY. It has a flag as a signal, and thats what makes it one to my understanding.

Yes Osage, very well done. I saw what you intended. Kids  could just toss them off the dock with a line to the board. The boards could be lattice (1/4" X1 1/2" X 3" (or longer)). Watcha callit? Castable Spring-Bobber-Float thingy. Let the kids try to say that, ha. Enjoy.

Hmmmm....center the spool... equidistant spacing from the spring rod, with at least one ferrule for uniform pull....add trip switch with a buzzer...or blinking LED....hmmmm
