Just got a Clam Nanook!
« on: Sep 12, 2012, 08:24 PM »
Guys - Just wanted to thank everyone for their help in answer the questions I had around flipovers -

I got an incredible deal on a Clam Nanook that looks barely used!  2 Years ago I got started with a Clam 2000 and I think this may be a good upgrade.

I'll miss my 2000 and the floor, but I think I'll enjoy the space and seats, I mostly drive to my spots and I can run and gun from there.

I'm getting antsy!

Pikemaster - I got it for $115.  I about fainted on the spot.

I saw you got a Frabill Recon for $50?  That's crazy!

Heck of a price and congrats on the purchase, you will love it!  If you're fishing solo, just take one of the seats out and it will save a little weight for you to pull.

Anderson - Thanks for the tip!

I've searched the boards, but I am looking for insight too into how to keep mice out of this thing.  I don't have a cover, and I don't have any above vehicle storage in my tiny 2 car garage.

If I put it in my storage shed, rodents will make this a mouse house.

Bounce dryer sheets help, just pack the shack full of them.  We are fortunate to not have many mice where I live, neighbor's cat is a killing machine, so I haven't had to stress over mice damage too much.

I take the cover off of my flipover and put it in a storage tote if it is going in my shed.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

I went from 2000 to Nanook myself.  I remember pulling that 2000 popped up across a lake with a slight breeze several times, no fun there.  If you spent more than $50 on your boots, your feet will be fine on the ice.

MY SOLID SUGGESTION:
If you plan to store your nanook on edge during the off season, remove the seats!  The weight of the seats over 8 months will bend the plastic where they are attached to.  No one wants to sit cockeyed.  Also, use big hitch pins for the front seat mounts so you can quickly remove a seat for more room.

You're going to love it!

Thanks everyone for your feedback -

The seats are not light that's for sure.  I think I'll actually take them and the bars out and just bring 2 folding chairs for weight/comfort.  Seems like a win win and store the canvas in a see through mylar tote to keep the mice at bay (Son of a B's will be trying to nest soon, it will be 40 tonight)

i like the idea of hitch pins.  would be easy to pop out  a seat for solo times.  cool idea
