Otter Wild Cottage... 1 Man
« on: Sep 24, 2012, 07:38 AM »
I'm in the market for a one man flip shelter.  I currently own an Eskimo Quickflip 3 and I'm going to keep that but I'm selling my snowmobile and trailer so I need a smaller tent to pull by hand.  My Dad uses a Otter Wild Cottage and removes the bench seat so the weight is around 50 lbs.  It has a lot larger fishing area set up at less weight than most one man flips on the market.  Does anyone else have this tent and use it as a one man flip?

I don't have the wild cottage but the older otter cottage. works great for one person. I have a question for you, what does your dad bring to sit on. I have the bench in mine also.

Along these same lines I really wish they would make the Otter single seats available to fit the Wild series.  I would love to get the Wild Cabin myself, but that bench seat adds too much weight and I don't want to sit on a bucket or folding chair.  Could always rig up a decent boat seat in some way I suppose.

This seat should work fine on the wild. If the predrilled holes on the length adjustment bracket do not line up on the Wild sled just drill new ones. I have the older version of this on my Otter Pro Small Den 1 man. The Wild 1 man is a bit bigger.

Thanks for the info. on this DK.  Just so I get it correct - the bracket on that Otter seat can open larger or slide smaller?  Are there bolts or pins of some type to hold this together?  Also, what is that bracket made from?  I assume aluminum, but almost looks galvanized.

Thanks.

Yeah it is adjustable. Mine is aluminum but I bought it like 4 or 5 years ago. A bolt and a nut goes through both tubes to hold them together at the desired length.

I welded a bolt to a small plate that fit in between the lip on the edge of the sled. I then drilled a hole in the sled lip and the back part of the bracket so the stud could stick up. Then I put on a flat washer and a large wing nut on to tighten everything down. This keeps the seat bracket from sliding around and tipping. You can take it off with no tools by using the wing nut. It works very well now.

Thanks DK.  I wonder if there is anything else about the Wild sled that would prevent that bracket/seat from working (shape or size of the sled lip perhaps)?  Anybody out there actually try using the Otter pro single seat with a Wild sled?

The lip profile should be the same. There is a lot of wiggle room in the mount where it hooks on the one edge of the sled.  That is why I added the bolt and nut setup I mentioned. The lip could also be bent a little if needed. Of course on the Wild sled there is a dip in the center of the sled so the seat setup should go there. If my shack would still not be in hibernation I would post some pics.

I've got one after my son adopted the two man version as his.  I tow mine around with an ATV, lots of room for one person.  Excellent quality too.

Otter has the seat kit and the back rail for sale. Its is in the new catalog .
Otter #2500 Pro seat kit 99.99
Otter # 2502 Pro Cottage rear seat rail 49.99
Otter # 2503 Pro Cabin rear seat rail 54.99
