What should make for ice fishing (cast aluminum)
« on: Sep 03, 2012, 03:09 PM »
I'm just about done building a home foundry set up for sand casting aluminum and brass. I have plans to build a lot of stuff for my lake superior boat, maybe even attempt to cast the parts to make down riggers. Anyone have any good ideas for ice fishing gadgets that could utilize cast aluminum or brass parts. One thing I did think of was spools for making tip ups. Any ideas appreciated, I'm ready for fall then ice, it's too d$&@ hot!

What's a "porty pole"? I was thinking of making a rod holder that clamps to my folding chair, currently I use a wire frame one that just sits on the ice, seems every time I get a bite I rip the rod out of it and it goes zoom across the shack haha, also sent one down a hole this way :(

Hey wait a second, I'm part polish haha! A few more ideas I've had include aluminum molds for lead jig heads and such. Also I could probably make some detailed aluminum decoys for the spearing pike, I've never been spearing but would like to try it some day.

That's not a bad idea, I have a plastic sled that came with my clam hub shelter, and I'm completely underwhelmed by it haha. It probably wouldn't be hard to figure out a small package of brackets and hardware, that would allow people to find a set of skis and utilize conduit from the local hardware store, and put one together with very minimal tools. That being said I didn't start this thread to try and sell anything, just ideas of stuff to build, and I definitely don't want to step on smitty's toes by trying to make money of his great ideas. I may have to make one for myself though ;D

Plus I just looked back over the Smitty Sled topic, and it just doesn't get any cheaper or easier then his original design.

If ya have a couple pontoons ya can have a permy on the South Platte. I moved from Greeley in 1977 and it was the best move I ever made.  ;D ;D ;D
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.
