Sunburn .vs. Windburn
« on: Jul 04, 2012, 12:57 PM »
Spent Sunday slaying the smallmouth on Lake St. Clair, and boy did I get fried!! Forgot sunscreen at home, and the 94 degrees and bluebird skies got me. Just makes me appreciate ice fishing even more, you don't get the sunburn, you get the windburn from the wind whipping across the frozen lake. I'd take a little bit of windburn on my face over full body sunburn ANY day! 6 months my fellow hardwater bretheren!

I sure hope it's less than 6 months!
I'm not as good as I once was but I am good once as I ever was.

I always set Jan. 1st as the typical start to the ice season. Even though most years I am out on 2.5" of ice (NOT RECOMMENDED) before, or right around christmas.  But I am only 5'9 (on a good day) and 160lbs, and typically fish extremely shallow backwaters that early.  By Jan 1st I am typically  on all of my big lakes.

Windburn is sunburn accelerated by the effects of wind removing the UV-filtering thin layer of lipids from the skin and irritation caused by the wind.[1] Though formerly thought to be solely the result of wind, the condition has been demonstrated to be the result of sun exposure aggravated by exposure to wind.[2] Thus treatment and prevention of windburn and sunburn are basically identical.
