battery power
« on: Feb 03, 2013, 09:39 AM »
hey ya all. since joining ice shanty i,v noticed a few post concerning battery,s for dept finders and other  applications and thought i,d add my 2 cents for what it,s worth. most 12v batteries for deptfinders only have a 7/8 amp capacity and  limit  the time u can use them. i use a lowrance 522c igps on the ice and on my small boat and have had to bring along a spare if going out for a full days fishing. no longer. after a  lot of research a couple of yrs back i purchased  a 12 v battery from power-sonic.  this battery has a 12 amp capacity and will fun my electronics all day. model no is ps121-20f2. there a bit pricey at around $50 but well worth the money in my book. this is the largest that will fit in most portable units. hope this helps some of you who need the additional battery time. good luck

I've never had a problem using 7-9 amp batteries but some guys are looking for a higher amp otion. This 12 amp is it. Same dimensions as the 7-9 amp hr batteries and 33% more amps.

My battery is four years old and it's a 7amp. It use to hold a charge all day. I think it's time for a new one. I think I will try to find one with more amps in it.Thanks ever one.

Im hoping it will fit my marcum showdown! I havent had much problems with the batterie. Bought the whole unit used on ebay for 175. Great deal. It wad pratically brand new they sold it because the ducer arm broke lol alls I did was drill a new hole and a longer bolt. But anyways. Ivr only been out for half days 12 -630/7pm and have gone on couple trips with out it dying. But its good to know theres a better batt out there.
Cacth them by day, fillet them by night.

Standard flasher and camera batteries are 2.56" wide, the battery listed above is 3.86". I considered a higher amp/hr battery, but my vex and marcum cameras have battery chambers that are specific to the 2.56" width so i stick with 9ah replacement batteries ( just ordered two off amazon for $38 shipped).

Most fish finders run between 280 and 400mah, a couple run at 500 but not many. So for your standard mechanical flasher you should be getting AT LEAST 14 hours on a 7ah battery, or 18 hours on a 9ah. Any less and your battery is weak and needs replacing. So for your 20 ah, it should run at the very least 40 hours. I think that is a little overkill personally, and no cause for the extra weight hauling it around.

My marcum will run for about 28 hours on a 9ah battery.
