Dead mans setup revised
« on: Jan 28, 2005, 11:58 AM »
I am going to make this setup on the weekend. A guy in my class showed me the designs.

[/img]

What you do is get a 2x4 base and whatever size of wood for the upper and diagnal pieces. Once that is built drill a whole and put a door stop spring through the hole from the inside. This will let your rod jigg a litttle in the wind for some movement. Drill the end of the door stop to fit your old rod blank. put a mount for a reel on the diagnal piece and have the line going to it. I am sorry about the poor drawing but didnt know how else to put it on here untill it is build. YOu  at least will never loose your rod again and it should work pretty good.does anyone have any ideas on how i should make the rod holder and how to get the rod to stay. It will work with some trial and error. Thought you might want to see it

Looks kinda cool now do you mout a spinning reel on that baby and how do you set the hook?Pull the whole thing up? Or do you just hand bomb it? Would be good for the deadstick rod. Thanks for sharing that RM post the pics when you get it done!! 8)

Well we make something very similar but without the 2x4 base and we use a chunk of dowling instead of the rod blank but the principal is the same and it is a handbomber TH .

Well Guys this thing work like a charm on the perch this weekend. The BINFORD 6100 is a great tool. It pretty well sets the hook for you which is awesome. Pics will be a while as there are 28 more to take on my camera before i can get them.

Good idea, but think it would work better if you mount a rod holder on it so that when you get a fish on you can remove the rod and fight the fish

how much do these things weigh and how much space do they take up? Look's cool though, there's just something about catching fish on something you make yourself.

I'm sure it would work great if the temps are above freezing.  I have a windlass tip up that's basically same idea,  but it stinks when the hole keeps icing up on those really cold days.

i was a little sceptical at first but then it started jigging and i caught about 35 perch with it on the weekend. It is a hand bomber but it worked great.

seen something like that a few weeks ago using 1x4 strapping ,door stop and a dowel with a small eyelet screwed into it, the line came back to a second eyelet then to a small spool of linescrewed to the 1x4.the spool had a little handle on it to rewind the line at the end of day.he had it rigged so that he could lock the spool solid or allow it to free spool for lighter bites.so simple but worked like a charm. He had a whole bunch and some had longer dowels he was telling me that they were more sensative due to mechanical advantage{easier to bend spring}This guy was fishing with us because he was friend with another guy I fish with.I witness him pull up 2x the fish I did that day.
